Women in the World (Part 3)

We’re in the home stretch! I apologize for these posts being so long, but for a five-hour long event on that day, I think I did a pretty good job summarizing each section haha 🙂 Here’s the last of the speakers for that day…

Toyota recognizing these Mothers of Innovation!

Toyota hosted a presentation for the Mothers of Innovation, featuring Co-Founders Monica Gray and Annie Medaglia for DreamWakers, a “nonprofit organization that harnesses the power of free video technologies like Skype and Google Hangout to bring exceptional career speakers into public school classrooms, inspiring students across America.” I think this organization is doing amazing work, especially since it focuses on partnering with schools in low-income areas, and hopes to exist in all 50 states in the future and bring motivational speakers to schools across the country. When I was in grade school, I would’ve loved the opportunity to hear from executives and other leaders in different industries to have an idea of the career path I wanted to move towards, and this organization is helping so many kids see the potential careers they can pursue!

The last speakers were Dr. Menaka Guruswamy and Barkha Dutt and they spoke about the paradox of India when it comes to women. I have to admit, I’m not very knowledgable of Indian culture so I was a little bit lost in their discussion 😦 BUT you can watch the footage here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Txz_cuPg_c

Meryl Streep concluded the event with a call to action for the audience, calling up 7 speakers from the past 3 days with their goals for the future. Two of the final messages she said to us were that “none of us can do everything, but each of us can do something” and “women are in the world and we will not be bullied!” View her video with the individuals’ calls to action here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psEtSRf6Xeo
